Description
HONEY |
Sex : Female |
Born : 2005 |
Status: Rehabilitating – waiting for the right partner |
Born in the wild in 2005 from where she was captured and sold into an illegal pet trade. 2 years later, her owner decided to donated her to the GRP. However as she is an Agile Gibbon which is not native to Phuket, she will unfortunately never be able to be released here. During Honey’s initial year at GRP, she lived with Bobbie (White-handed gibbons) and their friendship helped both juveniles gain some social confidence. Later Bobbie has moved on to pair with her own species. For Honey, she remained at the front row of the site where only gibbons that are not participating in the reintroduction program are housed. Since 2010 she is housed next to Gibby (♀), another female gibbon of a different species from everyone else at GRP. We wanted to give the two young, lonely females a chance to become friends and possibly live together, but Gibby did not want Honey in her territory and they are now just neighbours. In 2017, we rescued another Agile Gibbon, Sayang and tried to house them next to one another. As Sayang’s behaviour is ways to human due to long-term raised by his owner, Honey could not adapt to accept him that we have to moved him away from her. As Agile gibbons can live with white handed gibbons, so we are hoping that one day a male that also cannot be released will be able to become Honey’s lifelong friend.
